Halloween Spooktacular Stir A Little Mischief by Layla Hunter and Giveaway

Please give a warm welcome to Layla who was kind enough to stop by and not only do a guest post but a giveaway as well. Thank you Layla for stopping by.
stir up a little MISCHIEF toNIGHT
With Layla Hunter

I was delighted when I realized I’d garnered the October 30th spot here at the Booklover's Hideaway! A long time lover of all things Halloween, this is one of my favorite times of the year. Halloween is the one time of year you can [legitimately] dress up and pretend to be someone else, be it spooky, sassy, sexy or spectral!

The origins of Mischief Night seem to date back to 16th century Britain and Ireland. As centuries passed, Mischief Night saw many transformations and the night, and its shenanigans as we know them now, bear little resemblance to the days of old.

According to my research, Mischief Night is also known as Hell Night, Cabbage Night,Gate Night, Mizzy Night, Miggy Night, Egg Nyte and Devil's Night, and any/all of them annual traditions in parts of England, Canada and the U.S.

The most familiar date for Mischief Night in the U.S. is October 30th, the day before Halloween. However, traditionally Mischief Night in Britain is November 4th, the night before Bonfire Night. This is the night, in 1605, that Guy Fawkes was caught trying to blow up the House of Lords.

October has seen its fair share of Halloween related blogs, including eloquent musings of all things that go bump in the night, folklore and even tasty recipes.

Halloween is steeped in traditions, old and new. I've always loved traditions, especially creating new ones for me and my family. Mischief Night is typically a night for stirring up mischief, but mischief comes in so many guises – and given I write erotic romance, I found myself pondering all sorts of mischievous thoughts.

Given the abundance of information already out there, I found myself considering what I could do to set mine apart … make it fresh; different. Then, how to translate them into a blog that wouldn’t find me banned from future blogs became my next challenge.

Being a Scorpio, I find myself blessed with a particularly passionate ‘alter ego’ which is likely the reason writing erotic romance appeals to me on so many levels.

Passion. Desire. Romance. If you ask me, any one of those, or a combination thereof, would make the perfect treat.

Enter my husband. One night while watching television together, we watched a particularly scintillating commercial for the Vampire Diaries (a guilty pleasure of mine) wherein one of the female characters dispenses a generous dollop of whipped cream from a can on her lover’s neck before she moves in to take a passionate bite. *shivers*

Something about that commercial piqued his interest as well – I could tell by the shift in

his body language. Of course, I asked him about it and he proceeded to tell me he found the premise sexy, in a dark, wicked way.

Hmmm. Very interesting. Then I had an idea …

We all have hectic, stressful lives to varying degrees, but when was the last time you were a little naughty with your partner? Or yourself for that matter?

That’s my challenge to you. Join me in starting a new Mischief Night tradition – ‘stir up a little MISCHIEF TONIGHT’ – give yourself permission to be a little mischievous tonight.

Whether you're moved by a whipped cream inspired nibble on the neck; have the urge to send a sexy text guaranteed to stir something up; serve up a decadent treat in bed (or anywhere else, for that matter); read a sexy bedtime story out loud; or engage in a little Halloween-inspired role playing of your own – the outcome will surely be a treat!

Another thought … why limit yourself to one night a year? Why not set your own Mischief Night date once a month – one night (even if it's just an hour or two) where you can step out of your own skin and be whoever or whatever you want for a little while?

Need a little inspiration? Check out some of my favorite sites …

Now onto my contest – what would Halloween be without a little trick or treat? Visit Secret Cravings Publishing and download my weekly FREE read, an erotic contemporary paranormal entitled “My Soul to Keep.”

Then send me an e-mail with the name of Val’s ghost to laylahunter [at] gmail [dot] com. The contest will run October 30th through Midnight, November 4th.

And the treat? The winner, chosen at random from winning submissions, will receive a $25.00 Gift Certificate to Secret Cravings Publishing.

Good luck to everyone! And a huge thanks to Donna and Danielle for having me here today!

Wishing you all a very Happy Halloween and a wickedly wanton Mischief Night.

About the Author:

Layla Hunter's love of romance began at age of eleven when her Nanny (referred to lovingly as 'Nanns') slipped her a couple True Romance comic books, along with her first romance, and it was love at first sight. Before long, she was writing her own stories and has been doing so for over two decades. Along with erotic romance, she enjoys writing fantasy/paranormal and contemporary.

A New Jersey native, she currently resides in an 1890 Folk Victorian that she and her husband are slowly returning to its former beauty. They share this century-old home with their daughter and a bevy of delightfully comical cats. Oh, and let’s not forget the ‘ghost mice’ … unseen to the human eye, her cats dutifully chase these invisible intruders throughout the house at three o’clock in the morning.

Although the siren call of writing commands most of her time, she also enjoys reading, photography, ghost hunting, belly dancing, shooting sports, movies, music, and actively supports several causes near and dear to her heart.

Layla has published several erotic shorts in an online magazine, Every Night Erotica,as well as had one of her short stories, Dark Desire, included in XOXO Publishing’s Halloween Anthology, Vol. 1, released October, 2010.

She’s most excited about joining the Secret Cravings Publishing family and her first novella, Skin Deep, was released February 9, 2011!

Romance and a deep emotional connection between her characters are integral to her writing, as is giving readers a chance to escape into her character’s world for a little while, where they can be assured of a HEA. She loves hearing from her readers, fellow writers, and is happy to answer all e-mails.

10% of my royalties from the sales of Skin Deep will be donated to The Scleroderma Foundation.

Vampire Diaries is also a guilty pleasure of mine though I didn't like the books as much. I like some of L.J. Smith's other series much better.

Hi Layla, you gave me some ideas (although, in my experience, whipped cream is sticky and hard to clean up), but still...

I'm a Vampire Diaries addict. I'm just not a fan of the books. But, there wouldn't be a guilty pleasure around without them!

Mischief Tonight or any night, sounds like a great plan! I envy live in and are restoring a Victorian - something I've always wanted to do.
No ghosts besides the mice? HA!
