Thanks, Book Lover’s Hideaway, for letting me join you today! It’s release day for me: my second historical romance, SEASON FOR SURRENDER, is now in stores.
So let’s talk about celebrations! The subject suits the book, since the setting is a house party during the Christmas season. Alexander, Lord Xavier, plays host to a motley group of scandalous guests every year, but this particular party is a little different. When his cousin, Lord Lockwood, dares him to invite a proper young lady, here’s what happens:
Xavier never declined a bet, but that didn’t mean he never remolded it to suit his preference. He shook his head. “I won’t risk an unmarried lady’s reputation, Lockwood. Much better that we bet on la signora or someone of her kind.”
“But we need a challenge. Naturally, the young woman would be permitted a chaperone.”
“No, it won’t do.” Xavier stared down the length of his stretched-out legs. The sheen on his boots was mirror-bright despite the drizzle and puddles outside. He had to watch his every step in order to keep them looking just so.
Lockwood tried again. “Your house party’s always a roosting place for the birds of paradise with no place to go for Christmas. Just give it a festive air to appeal to the sparrows, too. Mistletoe in the corners, punch every night—revelry will be expected. If you’re as charming as all the world says, you should have no trouble in persuading a respectable young lady to attend.”
Xavier adopted Expression Number Three, Amused Tolerance. “You said it, Lockwood, not I. I’ve never professed many virtues.”
Of course, Xavier eventually gives in, all for the sake of a reputation he doesn’t want anymore: the reckless rake who’s always up for a wager. But as a result, Louisa Oliver—a proper bluestocking with a wicked sense of humor—attends his house party. And both of them wind up with far more to celebrate than they ever expected.
The Christmas house party includes not only the usual feasts and games, but also an encoded book. Xavier and Louisa forge an unlikely friendship to solve it, and as they do, they get to know the person behind the surface reputation. Does friendship turn to love? Why, yes. Yes, it does. And the final celebration of the house party turns out to be a code for…nah, I’d better not spoil it!
I’m offering a signed copy of SEASON FOR SURRENDER to one entrant today, so be sure to hit up that Rafflecopter form. And I’m curious to know: what’s your favorite occasion to celebrate? Please tell us about it in the comments.

HONOR AMONG ROGUES
Alexander Edgware, Lord Xavier, has quite a reputation— for daring, wagering, and wickedness in all its delightful forms. But the wager before him is hardly his preferred sport: Xavier must persuade a proper young lady to attend his famously naughty Christmas house party—and stay the full, ruinous two weeks. Worse, the lady is Louisa Oliver, a doe-eyed bookworm Xavier finds quite charming. Yet to refuse the challenge is impossible—he will simply have to appoint himself Miss Oliver’s protector…
MISCHIEF AMONG MISSES
Louisa knows her chance for a husband has passed. But she has no desire to retire into spinsterhood without enjoying a few grand adventures first. When Lord Xavier’s invitation arrives, Louisa is more intrigued than insulted. And once inside the rogues’ gallery, she just may have a thing or two to teach her gentlemen friends about daring…

ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win a copy, Theresa! :)
This sounds both naughty and sweet. I like the idea that both characters start off feeling like they have to just survive the situation, and then .. romance ensues. Cute cute concept!
ReplyDeleteI love reading Historical romances. Season for Surrender sounds very interesting and something that I would enjoy reading. Thanks for a chance to win a copy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting Theresa today! :)

To be honest I don't have one favorite occasion to celebrate. I love to celebrate every special moment a little bit ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your release! Your book sounds really great and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I love celebrating just about anything, especially when I am the hostess. Since I am getting older I have been hosting Thanksgiving at my house for the past 3 years. I love doing it and making all the food and everyone eating themselves into a stupor. I love doing parties. Before I had kids we had a huge halloween celebration. Everyone dressed up and had tons of food & drink. It was always a great time. Anytime we had a chance to celebrate, we always had a party. Thanks for the giveaway. Love historical and this book looks right up my alley. Thanks for the giveaway.

ReplyDeleteChrisbails, I am so impressed. Sounds like your house is the place to be!
Danni T, is your family far away? Most of mine lives out of state, and Christmas is one of the only times we see each other. That does make it a really special time of year.
BLHmistress, thanks again for hosting me today!
We love to celebrate birthdays! The whole family gets together for big birthday dinners!
ReplyDeleteLots of fun!
Thanks for a great post and congrats to Theresa on the new release! It sounds fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI love Christmas :)
I love to celebrate Halloween and my birthday, which is the next day. I always have pumpkin pie instead of cake. :D
ReplyDeleteWell, I love Christmas!! I can eat a lot without feeling guilty about it! lol And I have a wonderful time with my family, too! Birthdays are a great excuse to celebrate a lot.. Honestly, I like to do a lot of things and I like to surprise myself (More like pampered, lol) Things like, when I have excellent grades on my college I say to myself, "It's time for a piece of chocolate cake" and i go buy it! hehe :) I love Historical romance, thanks for the contest! And congrats for your book! :)
ReplyDeleteI love celebrating CHRISTMAS!!!
ReplyDeleteTexas Book Lover, that sounds so fun. Does the person with the birthday get to pick any special foods?
ReplyDeleteErin, thank you! Do you like reading Christmas books too? That's a fun part of the season for me.
Barbara, that's my grandmother's birthday too! There are always plenty of treats around for a November 1 birthday, aren't there? :) Pumpkin pie instead of cake is a great tradition.
Liss--treating yourself for a job well done is fun at any time of year! :)
I like to celebrate everyday one way or another but I truly enjoy holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving where families get to spend a little time together and enjoy each other.
ReplyDeleteI find excuses to celebrate all the small or big things that happen.. Like my sister getting good grades or birthdays or anniversaries, or a promotion at work.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway!
I love celebrate christmas, because i receipt a lot of present

Justpeachy36--I agree, it's really nice to have that extra time off so people can meet up. My family's spread pretty far across the country, and that's the best time of year for us to see each other.
ReplyDeleteKristia, that is awesome! Why wait for a holiday to celebrate? Good stuff happens all the time. :)
sweety white--that definitely does sound fun. :) Hope you have another good Christmas this year!
I love celebrating anything with my family. Whether birthdays, holidays, special occasions, etc I love spending time with my family and just laughing and having a good time.
ReplyDeleteI do love holiday books and have this one on my wishlist :)
I don't really need an occasion to celebrate. If it's been a bad day, one of the kids does good on a test, everybody makes it home for dinner. It's just the little things.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds like a winner. Can't wait to read it.
June M, thanks for putting Season for Surrender on your wish list! Your family sounds like a fun one to hang out with.
ReplyDeleteJoanne, I like it--celebrating the everyday moments. That's something I should remember to do more of.
