Amazon Summary:
In 2083, chocolate and coffee are illegal, paper is hard to find, water is carefully rationed, and New York City is rife with crime and poverty. And yet, for Anya Balanchine, the sixteen-year-old daughter of the city's most notorious (and dead) crime boss, life is fairly routine. It consists of going to school, taking care of her siblings and her dying grandmother, trying to avoid falling in love with the new assistant D.A.'s son, and avoiding her loser ex-boyfriend. That is until her ex is accidently poisoned by the chocolate her family manufactures and the police think she's to blame. Suddenly, Anya finds herself thrust unwillingly into the spotlight--at school, in the news, and most importantly, within her mafia family.Review:
What intrigued me about this book was the blurb of this book, Can you imagine chocolate and coffee illegal? I surely can't, considering I love both and can't imagine having to do without either. So I knew I just had to read it, though its not my typical type of book to read. I dove into this book last night and devoured it in one setting. I loved everything about this book, the plot was very unique at least for me it was, the characters were well written and I loved the little 'notes' the author would stick in every now and again, making it all seem like I was reading Anya's journal.
Though only thing I would like to learn more about how the country got into this situation and I would love to find out if chocolate will be legal again. I also found it ironic, while chocolate and coffee is illegal you can drink at any age.
Overall I found this a refreshing change from my normal reading habits, and I hope to read more Anya, Win, Scarlet, Leo (who I really love)and Natta. I definitely recommend this book if you interested in a unique type of story line(maybe it won't be for you but it was for me.)
