Romantic Tales: Bedtime Stories: Episode 2: Guest Post and Giveaway with Ty Langston

Please Give a warm welcome to Ty Langston, Author of Crave in Romantic Tales : Bedtimes Stories Anthology. Thank you Ty for stopping by.

Playlists

I love adding a playlist to a book. For me, it gives a story a soundtrack, much like a movie does. It can drive a story, give a depth and create an atmosphere that plants you straight into the author’s world.

I’m a huge music lover. My diverse music taste range from Mozart, to rap with a lot of heavy/metal and rock mixed in. When I write a story, there’s usually for a scene, a song that’s on either a constant repeat or its several artists complied in one playlist.

For the ‘CRAVE ‘series in my current release, ‘Romantic Tales: Bedtime Stories’ there’s some Jeff Scott Soto (formerly of Journey), Ratt, and a TON of Evanescence. For some reason, Amy Lee’s voice matches the tones of the stories which is about the Rock Band that has ties with the disappearance of a teenage girl who often showed up at their shows.

The bank is not only sexy, but has a secret that began to play itself out in the remaining episodes going forward.

Here’s just some of the Playlist for “CRAVE” for Episodes One. If you read it, listen to the music and let me know if these songs fit the story.

Episode One- Nina Simone ‘Feeling Good’ introduction of main female character, Harper. (Chapter One)

Evanescence- -‘Sweet Sacrifice’- Harper at missing teenager, Darien Anderson’s parents, speaking to her mother about the latest details of her disappearance. (Note-if you read the 1 st episode, you’ll understand why I picked that song)

Jeff Scott Soto-‘Heart of the Fire’ – (Song is a rare song from Jeff-It’s actually from the movie, ‘Rich Girl’ soundtrack) –Scene. When Harper first sees Cass performs on onstage. (Author’s note-song is FANTASTIC! I got the soundtrack years ago, but I heard it’s hard to find now, if you can, I encourage you to find it. Every song is great on it. My opinion, Jeff is better on his own than he ever was in Journey)

Evanescence –‘Everybody’s Fool’ (last scene of Episode one)

Here’s an excerpt of CRAVE where ‘Everybody’s Fool’ is played on a constant repeat and you’ll really understand why I chose this song. (Actually, it chose me)

 Excerpt:

“Here, let me walk you out.” The lead singer said while the two of them began to walk out. Sean and Chace trailed after him.

“I’m fine Cass, thank you.” she insisted, heading out towards her Camaro.

Before opening the door, she heard growls coming from the darkness. She decided to ignore it. All the mind fucks and remnants of words, mixed with exhaustion were all getting to her.

“I’m sure you are. Hey listen. We’ll be playing here again on Saturday if you want to come by.” Cass said. “I can comp you and Ellen tickets.”

‘Hmm. I don’t know. Depends on work.” She told him.

“Oh come on, Sug. You don’t work there 24/7 do you. If they let Dave out, they should let you out, every so often. A little fun never hurt anyone. Besides, after the show, if you’re hungry, we can go to this pizza place up the street…” he said.

His voice trailed as the growls became louder and closer. She put her hand over his mouth. “Do you hear that?” she asked.

As soon as she asked, the lead singer pressed his hand firmly on her arm. She faced him. “Don’t move.” He told her.

He turned his back from her. He was so tall and his back so broad that she couldn’t see what he obviously didn’t want her to see. She tried to look however, but moving him was worse than trying to move a cement block.

What is it? A dog? Come on Cass. I have to go. I’m not playing.” she pleaded after finally freed herself from him.

In front of them it stood. It was large and black with fangs as sharp as a razor.

Harper was paralyzed with fear. She couldn’t move if she wanted to.

“It’ll be okay, Harper. Don’t move. Don’t say anything.” Cass told her.

Her breath became shallow; her heart pumped so loud her chest she feared it would come out. She did what he asked.

She had never seen a creature so big. It was four-legged with red eyes. As quickly as it came to the car, the quicker it surrounded them, pacing in front of them growling at every gesture. Cass was calm throughout. She was grateful that he did decide to follow her after all.

“Umm, Cass? What is that?” she whispered.

Cass’ eyes focused on the creature. As soon as it snapped at Harper, Cass snapped back. The charming smile was now fueled with anger. She touched his back. She didn’t want him to leave.

“Cass?” she asked. “What is it?” she whispered.

“Shh.” He told her. “I got his. When I tell you, I want you to get into the car, ok Sug?”

She nodded. “Okay.”

The creature got eye level to Cass and sat down. Cass got in the creature’s face and opened his mouth to reveal razor sharp fangs. His growls were even louder than the creature.

Harper was stunned. The creature snapped at Cass once more who retorted with a bite to the creature’s neck.

The creature squealed and squirmed. Cass continued to hold onto the wolf’s scruff firmly. He turned towards her, his fangs bloodied. Removing his bite, he yelled as he held the creature. “Go! Get in the car, now!”

His eyes were as red as crimson. Harper fumbled to open the car door when another wolf came from nowhere and jumped on her. She screamed loudly as her clothes were being torn off. She tried with everything to push it off of her and in one swoop; Cass and Sean picked up the wolf and hurled it into the one now in the middle of parking lot.

As soon as she became free she opening the car door, turned her key and started the car. She looked up at an angry and bloodied Cass as she pulled away. She was in disbelief over what she just witnessed.

The only time I really listen to music while reading is if I am exercising, and that is because I need to drown out the people in the gym or I can't concentrate on the book (and therefore forget I am exercising!). I like to listen to Foo Fighters.

I love turning on the television and listening to GAC-Great American Country and just listening to the videos. I sometimes watch, but mostly listen. I also love Paramore, Muse, and Linkin Park. Even just the 2 local country stations or some old rock-n-roll is cool.

Personally I normally can't listen to music while I read unless it's a textbook because I either get so caught up in the story I tune the music out or I listen to the music too much and can't get into the story lol
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

Answer Ty's Question : For readers, what are some of your favorite artists that you listen to when you’re reading? And why?

Oh no...am I one of those odd balls that can't listen to music while reading? It distracts me and I can't focus on the story. The only time I listen to music is while I'm driving or in the gym. However, that doesn't mean music doesn't come to mind when I read! I'll think of songs that are perfect for a particular scene in the book and I'll form a playlist which reminds me of the book, but I won't play the playlist while reading. I'll play the playlist when I'm driving or exercising. Does this make sense? Haha :)

Thanks for the giveaway! tess_halim(at)hotmail(dot)com
