I have to let you, our loyal blog followers in on a secret. I hate doing this meme. Hate it. I go through my TBR shelf at Goodreads and remind myself of all the amazing books out there I cannot wait to read. Then I work myself into such a frenzy about the book, I go out and get it because I can't control. For example, last week, I said Kushiel's Dart was a book I had to have. I now own it. The books is 700 plus pages and I just finished Discovery of Witches which was a huge book to read at 600 plus pages. I have two books that are eyeballing me that are waiting to be read, This Much I Know is True by Wally Lamb and The Passage by Justin Cronin, each of those are huge books to read as well. I need a lot of reading time. And better eyeballs.

Speaking of better eyeballs (here I go on my tangent) I have NEVER had allergies in my life. Never. All of a sudden this year, I get these horrible allergies and my eyes feel like I've been crying for days and they get little knife pin pricks in them. I put visine in them which helps for about 10 minutes. I hate it. I don't know why now? I have no idea.

Okay, so back to the book I'm choosing for my wishlist this week. Let me see...Oh, I know! Shoot, and I'm gonna have to get this book SOON because I hear it's great.

Here's the summary:

In Deuce’s world, people earn the right to a name only if they survive their first fifteen years. By that point, each unnamed ‘brat’ has trained into one of three groups–Breeders, Builders, or Hunters, identifiable by the number of scars they bear on their arms. Deuce has wanted to be a Huntress for as long as she can remember.

As a Huntress, her purpose is clear—to brave the dangerous tunnels outside the enclave and bring back meat to feed the group while evading ferocious monsters known as Freaks. She’s worked toward this goal her whole life, and nothing’s going to stop her, not even a beautiful, brooding Hunter named Fade. When the mysterious boy becomes her partner, Deuce’s troubles are just beginning.

Down below, deviation from the rules is punished swiftly and harshly, and Fade doesn’t like following orders. At first she thinks he’s crazy, but as death stalks their sanctuary, and it becomes clear the elders don’t always know best, Deuce wonders if Fade might be telling the truth. Her partner confuses her; she’s never known a boy like him before, as prone to touching her gently as using his knives with feral grace.

As Deuce’s perception shifts, so does the balance in the constant battle for survival. The mindless Freaks, once considered a threat only due to their sheer numbers, show signs of cunning and strategy… but the elders refuse to heed any warnings. Despite imminent disaster, the enclave puts their faith in strictures and sacrifice instead. No matter how she tries, Deuce cannot stem the dark tide that carries her far from the only world she’s ever known.

As I understand it, it's like The Hunger Games which I adored. This is a must read for me. Please, someone find me the time!!!! You can't give me time, okay. Then please! Make my allergy eyes go away!!!

I had lots of fun yesterday blog hopping and checking out everyone's blogs. You know how that goes right? You start clicking on links and before you know it, it's 4:15pm in the afternoon and you still haven't brushed your teeth? ::guilty look:: Anyway, in the course of my clicks yesterday, I ran across this book and I'm telling you, I'm so tempted to run and get it right now.

Here's a summary from Amazon for ya:

This brilliant and daring debut, set in a skewed Renaissance world (people worship Jesus-like "Blessed Elua" but also demigods), catapults Carey immediately into the top rank of fantasy novelists. In the character of PhŠdre n¢ Delaunay, "a whore's unwanted get" sold into indentured servitude in opulent Night Court, the author has created a particularly strong and memorable female lead, and has surrounded her with a large and varied cast, from nobles and priests to soldiers and peasants. An engrossing plot focuses first on court intrigue and treachery, then, in a surprising shift, on high adventure, travel in barbarian lands including Alba (England) and war. Two demigods rule PhŠdre: Naamah, for sensual love; and Kushiel, for sado-masochistic pain, his "dart" being a blood spot in PhŠdre's eye. Not everyone will go for PhŠdre's graphic if elegantly described sexual encounters, which usually involve the infliction of pain, whether from lashing, branding or even cutting. PhŠdre, however, is no clich‚d sexpot but a complex character motivated by religious zeal. In one amusing scene, a group of sailors on the march chants: "Whip us till we're on the floor, we'll turn around and ask for more, we're PhŠdre's Boys!" At the end, the heroine reminds one of an equally strong-minded sister whose home was Tara. No mere feminist novel, this is an assured and magnificent book that will appeal to both male and female readers. (June 4)Forecast: With blurbs from Delia Sherman and Storm Constantine, plus major print advertising both genre and mainstream, this first novel could rack up impressive sales.

Sounds interesting eh? What got me were reviewers on Goodreads talking about how they hate sex in books, hate BDSM stuff in books, hate giant reads, etc. and yet most of them gave the book at least a 4 or a 5 start rating and that's the stuff that I LIKE. So I'm dogging this book. I gotta have it. Have you read it???

Every so often, a gal wants a kick ass heroine. One that doesn't fall into some tortured vampire's arms because he has hot tats. This book (series) sounds like it would fit that bill. I'm really excited to read this series soon.

THE DEPARTED HAVE ARRIVED.

The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen, and the living are under attack. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully tattooed witch and freewheeling ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for banishing the wicked dead. But Chess is keeping a dark secret: She owes a lot of money to a murderous drug lord named Bump, who wants immediate payback in the form of a dangerous job that involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in lust for a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump’s ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah. (from Barnes and Noble)

I'd like to take this moment to wish all you moms out there the very happiest of mother's days. I found this image somewhere (I honestly can't remember) last week, and I hope you all can enjoy. Nuttin like a little chocolate with your beefcake right? Of course right.

Synopsis:

Northern Exposure

Even in Grundy, Alaska, it’s unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbor Cooper Graham—who has been openly critical of Mo’s ability to adapt to life in Alaska—has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble.

For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it’s love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he’s worried that he might be the violent canine in question.

If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he’s not responsible, then who is? And when a werewolf falls head over haunches in love with you, what are you supposed to do anyway? The rules of dating just got a whole lot more complicated. . . .

So that's one book that's on my wish list. I honestly don't even remember where I heard about this book, but it sparked something in me and I put it on my wish list. It sounds interesting doesn't it???

Tomorrow, there's a few new reviews posting. Make sure and check them out.

Thanks for being loyal blog followers! We appreciate you! I hope you enjoy your weekend!

Synopsis:

My name is Elizabeth Anne Hawksmith, and my age is three hundred and eighty-four years. Each new settlement asks for a new journal, and so this Book of Shadows begins…

In the spring of 1628, the Witchfinder of Wessex finds himself a true Witch. As Bess Hawksmith watches her mother swing from the Hanging Tree she knows that only one man can save her from the same fate at the hands of the panicked mob: the Warlock Gideon Masters, and his Book of Shadows. Secluded at his cottage in the woods, Gideon instructs Bess in the Craft, awakening formidable powers she didn’t know she had and making her immortal. She couldn't have foreseen that even now, centuries later, he would be hunting her across time, determined to claim payment for saving her life.

In present-day England, Elizabeth has built a quiet life for herself, , tending her garden and selling herbs and oils at the local farmers' market. But her solitude abruptly ends when a teenage girl called Tegan starts hanging around. Against her better judgment, Elizabeth begins teaching Tegan the ways of the Hedge Witch, in the process awakening memories—and demons—long thought forgotten.

Part historical romance, part modern fantasy, The Witch’s Daughter is a fresh, compelling take on the magical, yet dangerous world of Witches. Readers will long remember the fiercely independent heroine who survives plagues, wars, and the heartbreak that comes with immortality to remain true to herself, and protect the protégé she comes to love.

So that's one of the books in my Wish List. It sounds interesting to me...not quite the paranormal romances I love so much, but interesting none-the-less. In fact, I'll think I'll go buy it right now and put it on my TBR shelf.

BTW, I think we need some clarification in the book world. I think there should be a TBR shelf and a TBB shelf. The TBR shelf is usual "To Be Read" which is where we put whatever books we have lined up to read. The TBB shelf should be the "To Be Bought" shelf which is book that we want. Just sayin'.

Donna has a special post tomorrow so I've got 3 book reviews posting today. I'll be back posting on Monday. Until then, have a most excellent weekend. I hope you can read as many books as you want.

Have I already said this? I could not possibly list ALL the books I'm wishing for. It would take forever, you would get bored, and I'd probably be rivaling Amazon. But, I'd love to share with you a few of my choices. :)

I'm getting a Nook. Soon. I know I've already told you this and you will hear it again and again until I get the dang thing. Then you'll probably hear it some more once I have it. But, one of the first books I'm going to buy for my Nook is this one:

SOME GIRLS BITE
by Chloe Neill
Book 1 in the Chicagoland Vampire Series

Publisher Nal Trade
ISBN-13: 978-0451226259

Description (from Amazon): First in a brand new series about a Chicago graduate student’s introduction into a society of vampires.

Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn’t exactly glamorous, but it was Merit’s. She was doing fine until a rogue vampire attacked her. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker—and this one decided the best way to save her life was to make her the walking undead.

Turns out her savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now she’s traded sweating over her thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan “Lord o’ the Manor” Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four-hundred- year-old vampire, he has centuries’ worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects her gratitude— and servitude. But an inconvenient sunlight allergy and Ethan’s attitude are the least of her concerns. Someone’s still out to get her. Her initiation into Chicago’s nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war—and there will be blood.

I've read some good reviews on this book and I'm anxious to get into it. It will be one of my first Nook purchases. :)

Have a great Saturday everyone!

Kelly's Wishlist:

This book has been popping up on some "must read" and "best of the month" read lists last month and I'm intrigued. I don't know if I'm intrigued enough to buy it, but I did reserve a copy of it at my local library, assuming they get it in soon. I'm 14 on the waiting list so I'm thinking it will be soon. Anyway, it sounds interesting. Reviews have been mixed. I may be disappointed or I may be reading the next great read.

"A Discovery of Witches"

From Goodreads: "Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has stumbled upon a coveted treasure lost for centuries-and she is the only creature who can break its spell.

Debut novelist Deborah Harkness has crafted a mesmerizing and addictive read, equal parts history and magic, romance and suspense. Diana is a bold heroine who meets her equal in vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont, and gradually warms up to him as their alliance deepens into an intimacy that violates age-old taboos. This smart, sophisticated story harks back to the novels of Anne Rice, but it is as contemporary and sensual as the Twilight series-with an extra serving of historical realism."

But our mixed-blood heritage short-circuits our talents at all the wrong times. My sister Delilah shapeshifts into a tabby cat whenever she's stressed. Every clue points to Shadow Wing, the soul-munching, bad-ass leader of the Subterranean Realms. He's made it clear that he aims to raze humankind to the ground, turning both Earth and Otherworld into his private playground. Our assignment: keep Shadow Wing and his minions from creeping into Earth via the Wayfarer. The demons figure they're in like Flynn. After all, with only my 'bumbling' sisters and me standing in the way, how can they miss? But we've got a secret for them: faulty wiring or not, nobody kicks ass like the D'Artigo girls

And with no sweetheart in site for me,I guess I just have to by my own Valentine's - ummmm who to choose to be my book boyfriend for that day Got any suggestions? Anyone?

Kelly's OMW:

I have a list this long ::holding out arms:: of books on my wishlist. Oh gosh, where do I start? If I were to walk into a book store right now, I think I would buy the next Demonica book that I haven't read yet. I will read these books because I really enjoyed the first two and the e-reader novella that was recently released. But as of right now, I don't have them. So yeah, this is what I'd be buying right now.

I'm sure you all know these books by now but just in case...here you go:

"Forbidden Temptations…
Serena Kelley is an archaeologist and treasure hunter—and a woman with a secret. Since she was seven, she’s been the keeper of a powerful charm that grants her health and immortality . . . as long as she stays a virgin. But Serena isn’t all that innocent. And when a dangerously handsome stranger brings her to the brink of ecstasy, she wonders if she’s finally met the one man she cannot resist.
Fatal Desires…
Wraith is a Seminus demon with a death wish. But when an old enemy poisons him, he must find Serena and persuade her to give him the only known antidote in the universe—her charm. Yet, as she begins to surrender to his seductions, and Wraith senses the cure is within his grasp, he realizes a horrible truth: he’s falling for the woman whose life he must take in order to save his own."

So with Valentine's Day right around the corner, will my sweetheart realize my heart's desire and either 1) get me a gift card or 2) buy me this book. Stay tuned loyal readers. Stay tuned.

This week I have a mixed bag of things I am wishing for: I have been wanting to read Retells for awhile so I picked two books by the same author whom is doing a retell of two of my favorite Fairy Tales, Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. My third choice is an anthology and main reason I want this book it has Gena Showalter in it- I have heard the other authors are good so I figured why not give it a try.

Product Dimensions: 7.1 x 4.3 x 1.3 inches

Goodreads Summary:
Miss Kate Daltry doesn't believe in fairy tales . . . or happily ever after.

Forced by her stepmother to attend a ball, Kate meets a prince . . . and decides he's anything but charming. A clash of wits and wills ensues, but they both know their irresistible attraction will lead nowhere. For Gabriel is promised to another woman—a princess whose hand in marriage will fulfill his ruthless ambitions.

Gabriel likes his fiancÉe, which is a welcome turn of events, but he doesn't love her. Obviously, he should be wooing his bride-to-be, not the witty, impoverished beauty who refuses to fawn over him.

Godmothers and glass slippers notwithstanding, this is one fairy tale in which destiny conspires to destroy any chance that Kate and Gabriel might have a happily ever after.

Unless a prince throws away everything that makes him noble . . .

Unless a dowry of an unruly heart trumps a fortune . . .

Unless one kiss at the stroke of midnight changes everything.

In the aftermath of Alexandria's tragic fall, Princess Selene is taken from Egypt, the only home she's ever known. Along with her two surviving brothers, she's put on display as a war trophy in Rome. Selene's captors mock her royalty and drag her through the streets in chains, but on the brink of death, the children are spared as a favor to the emperor's sister, who takes them to live as hostages in the so-called lamentable embassy of royal orphans...

Trapped in a Roman court of intrigue that reviles her heritage and suspects her faith, Selene can't hide the hieroglyphics that carve themselves into her flesh. Nor can she stop the emperor from using her for his own political ends. Faced with a new and ruthless Caesar who is obsessed with having a Cleopatra of his very own, Selene is determined to honor her mother's lost legacy. The magic of Egypt and Isis remain within her.
