Hedgeland tour Guest Post by Ann Nyland

The Kiste.

Hedgeland revolves around the object known as the Kiste - pronounced

kist (as in kissed) + e (e as in He). In Hedgeland it is a device for time travel

but in history it was a sacred object in the Eleusinian Mysteries of ancient

Greece. The terms of Cardiwen's world likewise come from the little we do

know of the Eleusinian Mysteries, for the rites and secrets of the Mysteries

have been kept even to today.

Basically, the Mysteries were all about Persephone, the daughter of

Demeter who was the goddess of human cultivation of nature. One day while

Persephone was out picking flowers she was abducted by the god Hades, the

ruler of the underworld. Demeter had no idea where her daughter was, and

searched for her for nine days. Finally she was horrified to learn that Hades

had taken Persephone to the Underworld as his bride, and all this with the

consent of Persephone's father Zeus.

Demeter was so heartbroken by the betrayal that she left the gods and

went to live with humans in a place called Eleusis. For a whole year she

would not allow any crops to grow on earth. Finally Zeus sent the messenger

god Hermes to order Hades to let Persephone go, but Hades was madly in

love with her. Before she left, Hades gave her some pomegranate seeds to

eat.

Demeter and Persephone were reunited at Eleusis but Demeter soon

discovered that Persephone had eaten something in the Underworld, which

meant she had to return there for a few months of the year. And so the story

goes, the earth blooms with flowers when Demeter is above the ground, but

the earth is barren when she returns to her lover Hades.

The Kiste, so important in Hedgeland, was one of the sacred objects

in the Eleusinian Mysteries. In ancient Greece, there was a festival of the

Greater Mysteries which lasted for ten days in September.

The first part of the festival was the bringing of the sacred objects

from Eleusis to a temple at the base of the Acropolis. After the procession,

the initiates entered the Telesterion, a large pillared hall. In the center of

the Telesterion was the Anaktoron. Only the hierophants could enter the

Anaktoron. Before the initiates could enter the Telesterion, they had to

chant, "I have fasted; I have drunk the Kykeon; I have taken the Kiste, and

after working it I have put it back in the open basket."

We do know that the Kykeon was a fermented barley and herb-based

drink used as a base for potions by sorcerers, and that the initiates chanted

after drinking it. No one knows anything else about the rites, as the penalty

for divulging them was death, which was a bit off-putting. The elements of the

Rites were called the "Unrepeatables." To this day, we have no idea of what

happened.

Blurb:
Hedgeland, an urban fantasy of time travel. Dr April Neuland, a Professor of Ancient
Languages turned non-fiction writer, has been plagued by dreams all her life, dreams
of her past life in the Otherworld. Meanwhile, in a parallel dimension of April's
past and Caridwen's future, Worthing, a Future History Professor, has allied with
the Military to access Future Internet communications and use new technology
to influence April to write an ebook novel revealing where she, in her past life as
Caridwen, hid the Kiste, a device to travel through time and space. Hedgeland weaves
all three time/space frames: Caridwen, Worthing, and April. Hedgeland is the first in
the Hedgecraft Sequence, but is a fully self contained novel with no cliff hangers.

Excerpt:
Duke woke in his bed with absolutely no recollection of how he’d gotten there. His head hurt
worse than any hangover he’d ever had before, and it felt as if he’d fallen down a flight or two
of stairs. His brain was fuzzy, but he could recognize the woman on the bed beside him. Viola,
propped against the headboard with eyes glued to the screen of her sleek silver smartphone, didn’t
flinch when Duke slapped weakly at her thigh.

"Hey there, sleepyhead. Give me a sec." She hit a button to send the e-mail she'd been writing
and put the phone into the pocket of her black jeans. She shifted until she was sitting cross-legged
facing Duke. "How're you doing?"

Duke rubbed a hand over his face hoping it would clear his head. No dice. "What did you drug
me with?"

"Foxglove."

Duke cursed under his breath. He fought against the sluggishness weighing him down and tried to
sit up. She'd crossed a line, and he really was going to kill her this time. "Vi -."

Amazon Summary:
Aubrey Griffen is a witch whose true reasons for coming to London soon fall to the wayside when she catches the eye of Edmund Bryant, the Marquess of Dalysbury. He seduces her into a whirlwind romance until the lies and threats of his mother force her to flee to Triaill Brimuir, a secret island of her ancestors off the coast of Ireland. Edmund goes after her only to be hit by Aubrey’s confusion and anger when she magically transforms him into an elemental beast of her own creation.

However, it is when Edmund’s lust mysteriously turns him back into a man that the couple are forced to deal with a family secret and untold of powers. Now, Edmund must learn to shift himself into the beast in order to save her in a battle of black verses white magic.

Fraught with scenes of explicit intimacy, romantic spells and mystical shapeshifting, Torn Asunder is a unique blending of the age of manners with sexual magic.

Review:
This is my first book that I have read by Kiki Howell and I found I was drawn the wonderful world of Aubrey and Edmund. I haven't to be honest read too many regency romances and found myself clicking to read faster.

Aubrey a witch came to London to live with her cousins Lord and Lady Sanderly, to learn her craft where she meets and falls in love with Edmund.

My heart broke for this couple almost like Romeo and Juliet, It seemed everything was against this couple. Edmund's mother I wanted to slap a few dozen times.

This story was told beautifully, you could feel the emotions of both Aubrey and Edmund as they fight to be together. All the obstacles that lay before them you honestly don't think they will.

Would I recommend? Yes if you love regency with a taste of paranormal, along with some hot steamy scenes this book is for you.

The Demon Kiss Tour Warlock vs Demon Boyfriend by Lacey Weatherford

I am so excited to have Lacey back again for another guest post, check out her topic this time I think you will like it I know I do. Thank you again Lacey for stopping by.

Warlock vs. Demon Boyfriend
You know life is good when you can roll over in the morning and find out that you’re
lying next to a scrumptiously hot warlock. I mean who could ask for more? All those
wonderful looks wrapped with fabulous power to boot, and he’s all yours to mold and to
hold, right?
But what if the worst happened and your delicious warlock suddenly found himself on
the dark side of things and more of a demon characteristic took over? Could you handle
it? Would you miss those soft, sweet, tender moments that happened more often with
your warlock? Or would you be willing to exchange them for quick, heated moments of
passion that could result in a little blood letting?
In The Demon Kiss, Vance starts to take a little bit of a walk on the wild side. He didn’t
do this by choice, of course, so he still battles his inner demon extensively, but he finds
it harder to not give into his temptations. He quickly realizes that his blood cravings are
also tied into his lustful feelings, which makes it even more difficult for him to hold his
control around Portia.

I climbed out of the bed, padded down the hall to his room, and opened
the door.
I gasped in surprised at what I saw.
He was sitting up on the edge of the bed, shaking violently. He lifted his
head as I entered, and the flaming red eyes greeted me.
Instinctively I moved to go to his side, but he held up his hand to stop me.
“Stay there,” he said through gritted teeth. “I don’t want you to come any
closer.”
“What can I do?” I asked helplessly, knowing he was trying to protect me,
but desperately wishing I could just hold him.

“I’ll be okay. The withdrawal is always the worst in the morning when I
wake up.”

A tear ran down my face as I watched him struggle.

“Don’t cry,” he said, clenching his jaw. “Just give me a minute, all right?”

Things tend to get a little rough when you don’t know whether your boyfriend wants
to kiss you or eat you. Am I right? But even though Vance is struggling, Portia never
leaves his side, continuing to adjust to the new realities about him that face her. Yes,
he’s changing a bit, but her love for him overpowers all of that. And even though she
desperately wants him to be well, she also accepts him for who he is.

So, how about you? Would you prefer the perfect, thoughtful, warlock boyfriend? Or
would you want your guy to be a little more on the right side of danger?

I know what my choice would be…

Blurb:
Can someone else's past come back to bite you?
After being drained of nearly all the blood in her body, novice witch, Portia Mullins, wakes
up to find that her warlock boyfriend, Vance Mangum, has fled in search of his demon father.

setting herself on the path of a new adventure that will take her, Vance, and their coven over
international borders, into a foreign place where they will discover that the black magic which
awaits them is far worse than they ever imagined. Portia finds herself tangled up in a web of lies
and deceit in another's quest for demonic power in the excitingly romantic second paranormal
novel in the Of Witches and Warlocks Series, The Demon Kiss.

Best Seller For The Day Fierce Dawn by Amber Scott Review/Kindle Giveaway Details

Blurb

“X-MEN action meets True Blood heat.”
-Ann Charles
Nearly Departed In Deadwood, 2010 Daphne Winner
“Intensely satisfying!”
-Carolyn McCray
Kindle Bestselling author, 30 Pieces of Silver

Snarling teeth, glowing eyes. Someone--something--is after Sadie Graves.

Elijah Stokes, the man who haunts her dreams, enters her reality claiming she’s
transforming into a changeling--not quite immortal but no longer human.

Battle lines are drawn and blood spills as the two fight not only for Sadie’s life, but for all
of mankind's as well.

Excerpt:
He stepped closer, so close he could see thin gold flecks in her sky blue eyes. “Do
you remember the night something chased you past the park?”

Her eyes widened. She perceptibly swallowed. “A werewolf?” “No,” Elijah said, not
wanting to correct the mortal term and create even more confusion. “I thought she was
a shapeshifter, but she claimed to be a changeling. And that you are, too.” “It doesn’t
sound like you’re sure I am.” “I wasn’t. Until now. The changeling has been following
you. I can’t get a strong enough trace to hunt her again.” “She wants me dead?” “I
don’t think so, but she wants something. She’s waiting, watching.”

Her hand went to her throat but her gaze hardened. “That’s why you want me to come
with you?”

“Yes,” Elijah said. “There are immortals who would kill you just to keep the realms
pure. Half-breeds aren’t tolerated in the immortal realm. They’re seen as inferior, tainted
perfection by many. A changeling would be far worse. Right or wrong, your existence
threatens both realms. The fact that I’m not the only one who knows you are transforming
puts you in higher danger.”

She threw her hands up and started yanking drawers open, tossing clothes aside.
Impatient but not angry.

He took in her every move, listened to the even keel of her vibration. She sounded
resolved. Elijah’s worries subsided. She was far sturdier than he’d first assumed.
She paused but didn’t face him. “And?” “And there is a faction—The Illeautians—who
consider humankind parasitic. They want the human realm destroyed. If humans start
evolving….”

She pulled off her tee. The smooth bare skin on her back, two crescent shaped scars at her

shoulders, filled his vision. Elijah couldn’t look away as she strapped a bra around her
slender ribcage and put her arms through the straps. His gaze caressed the slope of her
back. Two hollows above her ass peaked out from her bottoms. His imagination filled in
what he could not see.

His body tightened against his will. He had no business wanting a mortal.
Even a changeling one. Because a part of her might always be human.
Humans died. Immortals lived. “If you’re right and I’m not going to be human anymore,
why would anyone care what I am?” She brought a snug blue shirt over her head then
glanced meaningfully over her shoulder.

He should turn around, give her privacy. “Because, what are realm lines for if humans are
evolving? Mortals live, they die, they do not become immortal. In human terms, it could
be seen as the first stages of Armageddon. Only this wouldn’t be a war between Heaven
and Hell.”

Review:
What can I say about Fierce Dawn ? I already knew I loved Amber's writing but this book sealed the deal for me. The characters immediately draw you in especially Sadie you can feel her pain and her fears of becoming exactly like her mother.

Elijah can I say I really like this guy, he will do anything to keep Sadie safe even from him self. The story at first had me confused with the story building but it didn't take long for me to understand and get mesmerized into this world. I will also add I loved her take on the paranormal world, Much different than I have read and believe me I have read a lot of different ways.

I can also say there were a couple twists I so didn't see coming, I won't say what they are but I had no clue and for me that makes for a good book if I can't guess what is going to happen.

One final thing, The sexual tension was so deep that I thought if this two didn't together soon one or both of them were going to combust.

Would I recommend? Yes wholeheartedly if you haven't read any Amber Scott's books then you should.
