FMB Tours: Book Spotlight, Review and Giveaway: My Vampire Cover Model by Karen Gerrard

Title: My Vampire Cover Model
Author: Karyn Gerrard
Genre: Contemporary, Paranormal, Romance, Erotic Romance,
Publisher: Decadent Publishing
Ebook Words: 22000
Purchase: Decadent Publishing |

 Book Description:
Life changed for Deanna Brooks the night she attended a book signing for her aunt’s best-selling paranormal romance series. There she met Burney ‘The Cover God’ Sheridan. The model for the series’ fictional vampire hero, Burn is beyond handsome and has an overabundance of Irish charm. He’s too good to be true.

Burn Sheridan, a man with scores of past lives, has a secret: he is a vampire. Meeting Deanna is agony because for the first time in over two hundred years, Burn experiences the rarest of vampiric needs—the mate-of-the-soul connection. Keeping people at a distance has been Burn's existence for centuries, but Deanna makes his pledge of staying detached impossible.

Many obstacles lie ahead and the biggest of all may be Burn himself. Can Deanna and Burn overcome them and find lasting love?

 Excerpt:

Deanna tapped her sandaled foot in annoyance. She didn’t want to bother with the guy, but Janice insisted, bouncing on the balls of her feet in excitement as they advanced toward the table.

As they moved closer, the model’s masculinity became more potent. She could hear the slight lilt to his deep voice as he answered the ladies questions. His eyes crinkled sexily when he smiled. His teeth were perfectly shaped and a brilliant white.

Deanna glanced at her aunt’s table a few times, hoping to catch her eye, but Carol was busy working her crowd. While Deanna enjoyed an historical romance she’d never quite taken to the paranormal genre. Aunt Carol always mailed her advance copies, but she usually wound up giving them to Janice. She should’ve given the books a chance. Judging from the crowd, paranormal romance seemed popular. There was a steady stream of women coming and going.

Janice clutched her arm. “We’re next!”

Oh, yippie-friggin’-yay. Janice stood next to Burn. Damn, he is tall. A few inches under six-six, anyway, Deanna observed. Janice babbled nonsensical chatter while the model smiled, nodded, and signed a couple of her paperbacks.

Janice put her arm around the man’s trim waist. “Take our picture, Dean!”

Deanna raised the camera and looked up just as Burn’s searing gaze swept over her like a roll of white heat. God, his eyes had turned from black to silver again. Those special magic contacts were amazing. Holding out the camera, she clicked and hoped Janice was in the frame because she couldn’t tear her eyes away from “Sizzle” or “Burn” or whatever his name was. Deanna clicked another for good measure.

Janice took the camera and shoved her toward the leather-clad hunk. Her mouth went dry, and her insides fluttered. For God’s sake, he was only a model. Why was she so flustered?

She stepped next to him and glanced up. Oh hell yeah, very tall. He towered over her by at least a foot. His arm stretched out to clasp her shoulder, and he brought her in tight against his side. Solid, rock-hard muscle. Her insides began to churn in arousal.

“What’s your name, darlin’?”

She couldn’t speak. Deanna was like Ralphie in A Christmas Story, sitting on Santa’s lap. Duh…uh. No words came out.

“Her name is Deanna, but I call her Dean!” Janice sang out.

Burn gently squeezed her shoulder, and it almost brought her to her knees, his touch was so intoxicating.

“Dean. I like that,” he purred.

Dear God. His voice, was he Irish? The tone sounded low, sexy, and rumbled deep in his impressive chest, sending shock waves through her entire body.

Then the unthinkable happened. A wash of scent covered her. Deanna could taste it in her mouth, and feel it on her skin. Was the overpowering aroma his cologne? Some guys liked to drown themselves with those tacky body sprays. Burn must have marinated himself in the swill.

Deanna wheezed and her throat closed up. Her hand clasped her throat. Trying to breathe through her nose was unsuccessful. The only thing she smelled was his spicy, musky, overpowering scent. Her eyes watered and her body trembled furiously.

“Are you all right, love?”

Deanna fell to her knees, fighting for every breath. Strong arms encircled her and carried her from the sales floor through to a door marked Staff Only.

Review:
How many of us dreamed of meeting our favorite cover model, and to have them a vampire is an added plus at least it would be for me.  Except Dean (Deanna) doesn't see it that way, she is dragged to the book signing by her best friend.  Paranormal just isn't her thing (what's wrong with this girl? ) okay sorry about that.   There is an instant attraction between Burn (isn't that just a cool name) and Dean.  Though Burn knows why and Dean doesn't so that leaves her confused.

I better stop there on my brief synopsis or I will tell you the whole book and you won't need to read it and let me say you must read this book.  I devoured (pun intended) this book in one setting. Only issue I had I wished it was longer, I would like to see more of Dean and Burn.

Would I recommend this book? Definitely without a doubt, if you love vampires , cover models and hot smexy action this book is for you.  I will definitely be checking out more of Karyn' Gerrard's books in the future.

FMB Tours: Book Spotlight and Giveaway: Lethal Beauty by Sara Brookes

Title: Lethal Beauty Series: Elatia, #4
Author: Sara Brookes
Genre: Science fiction, Paranormal, Erotica,
Publisher: Decadent Publishing
Ebook Words: approx. 25K

 Book Description:

As a covert operative in Elatia’s elite military, Sway Waybourne is used to fending for herself. But a powerful uprising means she’s now responsible for guarding the leader of a neighboring planet. Within seconds of meeting Dason Cavaletti, sparks fly and Sway realizes she’s gotten more than she bargained for.

Dason is curious about the arousal taking over his mind, body, and soul. When he can no longer stand the overwhelming desire, he confronts Sway. But the disturbing news she delivers isn’t at all what he expected. Mating with the gorgeous woman could kill him….

WARNING: Sarcasm galore from a fiery heroine who can take care of herself thank-you-very-much. She won’t take anyone’s guff—even from the leader of the free universe no matter how handsome he is. A unique genetic quirk leads to inventive foreplay, one blazing hot hands-on session in the bathtub and a gender bending encounter that signals this ain’t your father’s Star Trek. No redshirts were harmed while writing this novel.

 Excerpt:

“This is…quite the situation.”

She blew out a breath as she slumped onto the far side of the mattress. “You can say that again.”

Sensing her frustration—which matched his own—he reached over and clamped his hand around her ankle. She didn’t fight as he dragged her across the bed and into his arms. “It’s not as if it’s the end of the world.”

“No. It’s just…I’m used to being able to handle any situation.”

“And you don’t know how to handle this.”

“Not really.”

“I’m sure we can come up with ideas. In fact, I’m thinking of one right now.”

“You’re going to be the death of me.”

“Way I understand, it’s the other way around.” Her laughter rang out in the room, shattering the tension. He pulled her closer, content and sated for the moment. “You’re a remarkable woman. Strong, determined, not to mention sexy as sin.”

She squirmed against him and he took it as a signal she wasn’t used to hearing such things said about her. Her reaction made him decide to shower her with attention while they were trapped together.

He was both amused and terrified by her reactions. Her extraordinary skill set was evident and he found her tenacity admirable. She possessed a vulnerability, though she clearly did her best to hide that aspect of her personality. By his guess, she thought it would show a weakness if she let others know about any flaw in her perfection. A good covert operative couldn't have any visible flaws. Otherwise, they weren’t very good at their job.

By the looks of things so far, she was very, very good at her job.

And for reasons he didn’t completely understand, he had begun to fall in love with her.

Title: Kavachi's Rise Series: The Devouring #1
Author: Mike Kearby
Genre: Damnation Books
Publisher: Horror, Thriller
Paperback/Ebook
Words: 56,000

Book Description:

A Dark Secret. Thomas Morehart and his sister,Kara are vampyre, not the undead, but creatures evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to mimic their prey, man. Then - rescued from a Nazi Prison Camp, Thomas and Kara are brought to the U.S. and forced to work inside government-owned mortuaries. Now -betrayed by the government sixty-seven years later, Thomas and Kara are in a race against time to transform back to their feral states or risk Exsanguination by government sanctioned hit squads.

 Excerpt:

The soldiers knew this lieutenant. Knew of him, anyway. Nikolai Borisoff was his Russian name, but if all the rumors were true, nobody knew his real name. Others of his kind referred to him as, “Rom baro,” the big man. But in the stories he was known simply as the necromancer hunter.

“Shall we put him in with the others, sir?” one soldier asked.

Nikolai ignored the question and squared himself off to stand face-to-face with the prisoner. He stared into the darkness of the creature’s eyes. “How do you write yourself?” he asked in Amria.

The creature stopped rocking. He looked up and opened a dark pit of a mouth. A word tumbled out: “Death.”

Nikolai frowned, “But where are the others?”

Death tilted his head right and left, like a confused animal trying to make sense of an unfamiliar sound. After several seconds of the head movement, he parted leathery lips and emitted a rattling laugh.

“Others?”

“Yes, the others, like yourself.”

“Killed, dead. All meat.”

“In the showers?”

“A death they would have welcomed.”

Nikolai leaned back. He stared across his left shoulder, down the rows of barracks where the camp’s prisoners were being assembled. The 48thhad found only a handful of them, yet intelligence had said there would be thousands. Reports had indicated as many as twenty thousand. He turned back to Death.

“Where?” he asked.

Death lifted his chin toward the camp entrance. “There,” he whispered. “Only a short way from the death gate. Toward the sea.”

Nikolai looked past the gathered prisoners and through the opened gates of the camp. Pine and aspen lined the road for as far as he could see. He turned back, questioning, “In the woods?”

“In the ground.”

Nikolai frowned. “Can you show me?”

Death shook his head. “I prefer here. It’s very bad luck to go to that place.”

“Why?”

Death began to rock again. “It’s a madhouse filled with all kinds of madness.”

Nikolai studied Death’s face. “Then you’ve been there?”

Death wagged a finger in Nikolai’s direction. “Oh, I went there once. It might even have been twice or maybe three times. I can’t be sure, for the madness takes away one’s sensibility.”

“And your job there?”

“I helped push the carts back to this camp.”

“Back? What had been on the carts before?”

“Creatures.”

“And when you returned?”

“Shoes…and pyjamas…and hair.”

“And what of those who once wore the shoes and pyjamas and hair?”

Death rested his chin against his knees once more and resumed his monotonous cantillate. Then, just as quickly, stopped. It looked up at Nikolai. Its pupils contracted. “Porrajmos!

Nikolai narrowed his eyes and pinched his bottom lip between his thumb and forefinger. His gaze darted back to the front gate and to the forests outside. “Are you saying violate?”

Death’s face twisted. He screamed again, “Porrajmos!”

Nikolai shook his head and released his lip. “To open? To open one’s mouth?”

Death stopped rocking and stared ahead, rigid. His pupils dilated back to their dead state. He exhaled a short breath, then pushed his right index finger into a spot just below his right ear and directly above his jawbone. He held his finger in the spot for several breaths, as if to make sure Nikolai understood, then slowly dragged the finger down his neck to his collarbone.

Nikolai watched, fascinated at the visual. “Rip open?” he uttered.

Death shook his head, exasperated, exhaled a rattling breath, and motioned with an outstretched finger for Nikolai to lean close.

Nikolai stooped forward and turned an ear toward Death’s mouth.

A gush of stagnant air rushed from the man’s lips and flowed across Nikolai’s cheek and nose.

Nikolai jerked away from the dead gas -- and from the two words that had drifted on the offensive fumes. He sucked in a quick breath and jerked the pilotka from his head.

Death nodded blindly, as if pleased, and then started rocking again. Nikolai could only stare at the living corpse swaying in front of him.

Porrajmos.

Such a simple word.

And when translated into Russian, two words: The devouring.

 Review:
Honestly, when I chose to read this book,  I chose it because it features my favorite type of paranormal creature.  I knew this was going to be dark, more dark than I am used to reading and that was another reason I wanted to read this book.  I wanted to see if I still loved vampires, even if they weren't my usual sexy, romantic type and you definitely won't see no sparkle here.

These vampires in fact are darker , more evil and won't hesitate to kill.  The fact that they change into creatures as well, for me is unique.  While I enjoyed this different take on vampires, I was a bit confused with why Thomas set his eyes on the Mexican Cartel. I wish that was explained a bit more. For me, it just seemed so out of the blue that this happened.

The story jumped from the past to the present, from 1945 and intertwined the concentration camps, Nazi's and vampires.  which is another thing I found very unique and I enjoyed very much. Though, at first I wasn't sure if we were talking about vampires or shifters or both.

Overall I enjoyed diving into a darker, horror filled world of vampires and yes, I can say I still like vampires after reading this story and I look forward to reading more and finding out where Thomas and Kara(Kavachi  or Tetanya 's) story goes next.

The Witch’s Dream begins with B Team on loan for temporary assignment to Black Swan headquarters in Edinburgh where they are supposed to fill in for stretched-thin resources and assist with a werewolf issue. They’ve been given permission to stop in Ireland for a few days and help Ram and Elora celebrate their handfasting at the palace in Derry.

A simple werewolf sanction becomes a diplomatic issue requiring the one thing Elora is no longer willing to give - finesse. This is a story that proves true love can find you when you’re least expecting it – even when you’re far, far from home.

Erotic quotient: A few steamy scenes. No menage. No BDSM.

 EXCERPT

When Kay’s bunch arrived it suddenly seemed as if the one hundred seventy five room palace on twelve thousand acres would not be nearly big enough. His family had migrated to South Texas in the nineteenth century and found it agreeably inhospitable. Berserkers enjoy a good challenge. So they founded an organization to clean up the mess, taking on rowdy itinerants who heartily embraced a get-it-done, no-rules philosophy and called it the Texas Rangers. Were it not for berserkers it seems unlikely that the frontier mix of Comanche, desperados, and javelina could have been subdued so relatively quickly and by so few.

Chaos Caelian, named such by his maternal grandmother as was her privilege in berserker society, was affectionately known as Kay. It was the nickname bestowed upon him by his teammate Rammel Hawking soon after they’d met. Ram had thought a knight named Kay – like the foster brother of King Arthur from Arthurian legend – was amusing. So Chaos became Sir Kay and it stuck. Even his own parents eventually began calling him Kay.

Yes. Everybody knew the near giant knight as Kay except for his three older sisters who refused to give up calling him Bubba, never letting him forget for a minute that he was the “baby” of the family. The four youngest Caelian children were close in age, only a year apart, and in familial ties. There was a much older brother, but he and their parents almost seemed to comprise a second family. The three preschool girls started out calling him “brother”, but the nickname quickly degenerated into Bubba and would not go away.

Their grandmother, sometimes called Evil Gran by those she had named, gave the girls similar hardships to bear. Having inherited the “sight” from her own grandmother, Evil Gran claimed she knew three girls were coming and set out to name them after the Norns; the three keepers of time according to Norse myth. Hence, they were named in order of linear time – past, present, and future: Urda, Verdandia, and Skulda. In a triumph of sibling camaraderie and conspiracy over custom, their names had morphed into something more suitable before they entered kindergarten. Urda became known as “Urz”, Verdandia as “Dandie” and Skulda did a triple twist into “Squoozie” which, odd as it was, seemed like a custom fit.

Elora had once heard Kay say that opening the door to his boyhood home was like going through the wardrobe to the land of “Nornia”.

The entire family resembled the popular perception of Vikings: tall, fair haired, fair skinned, with blue eyes, an abundance of athletic ability, and an indomitable desire to know where to plunder the best jewelry. Fortunately the family had accumulated multigenerational wealth in land, cattle, and oil in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century so the quest for jewelry did not require going a’viking as it was known in the old days. Kay’s sisters were content with the occasional plunder of Gump’s, Tiffany, and Cartier.

Romantic Tales: Bedtime Stories: Episode 2: Guest Post and Giveaway with Ty Langston

Please Give a warm welcome to Ty Langston, Author of Crave in Romantic Tales : Bedtimes Stories Anthology. Thank you Ty for stopping by.

Playlists

I love adding a playlist to a book. For me, it gives a story a soundtrack, much like a movie does. It can drive a story, give a depth and create an atmosphere that plants you straight into the author’s world.

I’m a huge music lover. My diverse music taste range from Mozart, to rap with a lot of heavy/metal and rock mixed in. When I write a story, there’s usually for a scene, a song that’s on either a constant repeat or its several artists complied in one playlist.

For the ‘CRAVE ‘series in my current release, ‘Romantic Tales: Bedtime Stories’ there’s some Jeff Scott Soto (formerly of Journey), Ratt, and a TON of Evanescence. For some reason, Amy Lee’s voice matches the tones of the stories which is about the Rock Band that has ties with the disappearance of a teenage girl who often showed up at their shows.

The bank is not only sexy, but has a secret that began to play itself out in the remaining episodes going forward.

Here’s just some of the Playlist for “CRAVE” for Episodes One. If you read it, listen to the music and let me know if these songs fit the story.

Episode One- Nina Simone ‘Feeling Good’ introduction of main female character, Harper. (Chapter One)

Evanescence- -‘Sweet Sacrifice’- Harper at missing teenager, Darien Anderson’s parents, speaking to her mother about the latest details of her disappearance. (Note-if you read the 1 st episode, you’ll understand why I picked that song)

Jeff Scott Soto-‘Heart of the Fire’ – (Song is a rare song from Jeff-It’s actually from the movie, ‘Rich Girl’ soundtrack) –Scene. When Harper first sees Cass performs on onstage. (Author’s note-song is FANTASTIC! I got the soundtrack years ago, but I heard it’s hard to find now, if you can, I encourage you to find it. Every song is great on it. My opinion, Jeff is better on his own than he ever was in Journey)

Evanescence –‘Everybody’s Fool’ (last scene of Episode one)

Here’s an excerpt of CRAVE where ‘Everybody’s Fool’ is played on a constant repeat and you’ll really understand why I chose this song. (Actually, it chose me)

 Excerpt:

“Here, let me walk you out.” The lead singer said while the two of them began to walk out. Sean and Chace trailed after him.

“I’m fine Cass, thank you.” she insisted, heading out towards her Camaro.

Before opening the door, she heard growls coming from the darkness. She decided to ignore it. All the mind fucks and remnants of words, mixed with exhaustion were all getting to her.

“I’m sure you are. Hey listen. We’ll be playing here again on Saturday if you want to come by.” Cass said. “I can comp you and Ellen tickets.”

‘Hmm. I don’t know. Depends on work.” She told him.

“Oh come on, Sug. You don’t work there 24/7 do you. If they let Dave out, they should let you out, every so often. A little fun never hurt anyone. Besides, after the show, if you’re hungry, we can go to this pizza place up the street…” he said.

His voice trailed as the growls became louder and closer. She put her hand over his mouth. “Do you hear that?” she asked.

As soon as she asked, the lead singer pressed his hand firmly on her arm. She faced him. “Don’t move.” He told her.

He turned his back from her. He was so tall and his back so broad that she couldn’t see what he obviously didn’t want her to see. She tried to look however, but moving him was worse than trying to move a cement block.

What is it? A dog? Come on Cass. I have to go. I’m not playing.” she pleaded after finally freed herself from him.

In front of them it stood. It was large and black with fangs as sharp as a razor.

Harper was paralyzed with fear. She couldn’t move if she wanted to.

“It’ll be okay, Harper. Don’t move. Don’t say anything.” Cass told her.

Her breath became shallow; her heart pumped so loud her chest she feared it would come out. She did what he asked.

She had never seen a creature so big. It was four-legged with red eyes. As quickly as it came to the car, the quicker it surrounded them, pacing in front of them growling at every gesture. Cass was calm throughout. She was grateful that he did decide to follow her after all.

“Umm, Cass? What is that?” she whispered.

Cass’ eyes focused on the creature. As soon as it snapped at Harper, Cass snapped back. The charming smile was now fueled with anger. She touched his back. She didn’t want him to leave.

“Cass?” she asked. “What is it?” she whispered.

“Shh.” He told her. “I got his. When I tell you, I want you to get into the car, ok Sug?”

She nodded. “Okay.”

The creature got eye level to Cass and sat down. Cass got in the creature’s face and opened his mouth to reveal razor sharp fangs. His growls were even louder than the creature.

Harper was stunned. The creature snapped at Cass once more who retorted with a bite to the creature’s neck.

The creature squealed and squirmed. Cass continued to hold onto the wolf’s scruff firmly. He turned towards her, his fangs bloodied. Removing his bite, he yelled as he held the creature. “Go! Get in the car, now!”

His eyes were as red as crimson. Harper fumbled to open the car door when another wolf came from nowhere and jumped on her. She screamed loudly as her clothes were being torn off. She tried with everything to push it off of her and in one swoop; Cass and Sean picked up the wolf and hurled it into the one now in the middle of parking lot.

As soon as she became free she opening the car door, turned her key and started the car. She looked up at an angry and bloodied Cass as she pulled away. She was in disbelief over what she just witnessed.
