Concept: “In the Ichidian Universe, the League rules all. Expertly trained and highly valued, the League Assassins are the backbone of the government. But not even the League is immune to corruption…

HE WAS BORN AND TRAINED TO KILL

Command Assassin Nykyrian Quiakides once turned his back on the League – and has been hunted by them ever since. Though many have tried, none can kill him or stop him from completing his current mission: to protect Kiara Zamir, a woman whose father’s political alliance has made her a target.

SHE MUST ACCEPT HIS PROTECTION – OR DIE

As her world becomes even deadlier, Kiara must entrust her life to the same kind of beast who once killed her mother and left her for dead. Old enemies and new endanger them both and the only way they can survive is to overcome their suspicions and learn to trust in the very ones who threaten them the most: each other.”

Review: This isn’t my first SK book -- it’s my second and wowza! I’ll be joining the masses on the SK fan floor. In this book, the first book in The League series, we meet and learn about the whole gang. Nykyrian, Kiera, Syn and others. The setting is a futuristic (I was thinking Star Wars) type setting where our girl, Kiara, finds herself the target of an assassination attempt and her father hires Nykyrian and his gang to protect her. Through lots of action scenes and some very tender and revealing “getting to know you” scenes, we find out what makes Nykyrian and Kiara tick as well as the ticks of those around them. It’s an action packed book that delves into the beginnings of these loveable assassins. Tortured hot men, tortured sexy virginal woman and you’ve got yourself Born of Night.

What I liked: I loved how SK really pulls you into the characters. I found myself really pulling for them all. The story behind the lovers was believable and exciting as well. I really enjoyed this book and I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.

As an extra added goodie, here's a link to a behind the scenes shoot of commercials for The League which apparently at some point was actually a program on the SciFi Channel. Really????

What I disliked: There was a little too much to the story. The angst between Nykrian and Kiera due to both of their tortured paths and the fact that there were contracts out on both of their lives plus friends and family that didn’t approve was enough of a story line for me. But the tortured upbringing of our hero was enough to bring tears to your eyes was thrown in that still wasn’t finished…there was also all these other bad guys, surprise children and pregnancies and kidnappings and well, there was never a dull moment. I think the book could have been cut short by a couple hundred pages and some of the stuff thrown out, or perhaps added into another book.

My rating: 4 Stars. This book is a definite good read.

I'm a big Sherrilyn Kenyon fan. I love the Dark Hunter books and I'm reading Infinity aloud to my class this year. I was lucky enough to meet Sherrilyn at a Romance Author's Luncheon. She is so sweet and so personable. She took her time with everyone in line, signed as many items as we put in front of her, and made personal connections with us all. When I gave her a card that my students made for her about Infinity and Nick, she almost cried. She is amazing! I need to read the League series next, I'm just a little afraid of the futuristic setting. However, I love J.D. Robb's In Death series, and that's futuristic. Hmmm....

Thanks for the great review!
